Question of the Day

Today we talked about what we were going to get ready for Grandma Sally & Grandma Donna for Mother's Day. They were trying to understand more about the day and why we want to do something special for the grandmas. Long story short is that they realized that we celebrate Mother's Day & Father's Day, etc. Leyton brilliantly & seriously came up with a great question that I honestly didn't know how to answer at the time but had to chuckle:

"Well when is it going to be Little Boy's Day?"

Four-year-old Logic

Tonight while putting the boys to bed, we discussed how many "N"'s were in each person's name. Leyton & myself have 3 (1 in first name, 2 in last name, etc.). Dad, Jacob, & Leah have 2 each. But Nathaniel, the lucky guy has 4. I told hime he had the most N's in his name of anyone in our family. His reply:
"That's because my feet are bigger!"

Jacob's Lullaby

I have a lullaby that is a familiar melody but somewhat my own lyrics as I don't know the real ones. The boys have grown accustomed to my own version and like it; in fact they don't like me to change it at all! Last night I was laying by Jacob and had the nicest time as he sang the whole thing to me in his cute little voice. It was very sweet and I'd let him sing for me anytime!

Leyton & Nathaniel are into secrets lately. The most common one...



"Mom, can I tell you a secret?"

"Sure," I tell them.

"I love you."



Enough said...and plenty to melt my heart at an unexpected moment.

Leah at 6 months ALREADY!

Well, last week marked Leah's "1/2 birthday" as we like to laugh about at our house. Last Monday, April 7, was probably the day she really accomplished the sitting up. That's the first day she really sat and didn't topple over for a good while. It sure is different seeing her sitting there so cute. Then last Thursday, April 10, I started the cereal. She actually likes it. It's just the rice so far, but she's really doing better with it than Jacob (he ate cereal about one time as a baby). So, we're just changing all this around for her. She had her well child visit today and weighed in at 16 lb, 12.8 oz (just under 75th percentile), her height was just about 27 inches (right at 75th percentile). She's doing great. It's just so hard to believe how quickly the six months have gone. Her brothers sure lover her, too. Nathaniel lately has been coming in her room at night when I am putting her to bed & he turns on the music box and the music on the mobile in her bed. Just a cute little sweetheart thing to do for her. Jacob has been giving her more and more kisses throughout the day which is also very cute.

Way to go Jayhawks!

We went to the Lawrence parade for the basketball team on Sunday. We had a lot of fun. There sure was a good crowd. We were able to get a picture of most of the team, so that was kind of fun...

Can't be a better season than that. Now I don't know what my excitement on TV will be for a while...actually, why do I say that; I don't have much time to watch anyway! Ha. Rock Chalk Jayhawk KU!

How Not to Shop for New Shoes

Sunday, 4:30pm, we finally get going to the mall to buy new tennis shoes for the kids. We arrive at the mall, get into the store to see a huge crowd. We put our name on the list to wait for a turn with the staff for measuring, selecting, etc. Well, when we were finally helped, it was probably 5pm or a little after. The store closes at 6pm & we're trying for 4 pairs of shoes. They are now getting hungry, especially Jacob. Leah has awakened from falling asleep in the car, and here we are trying to be fitted. We get the big boys' sizes...Leyton had picked some shoes he really liked. Nathaniel decided he didn't want any & would keep his old ones. Well, until he saw what Leyton liked. So, he wanted those as well. Jacob was simply upset with the whole process. He did, however, NEED new shoes more than anyone else I think. So, we wait for the shoes...guess what? They don't have the shoes Leyton wanted in his size. Yikes. They did have Nathaniel's size and he said, "I sure am glad they have these in MY size." Perfect. Leyton started to cry as he really wanted those shoes from the mall today. I found out we can get them at their other store at Town Center, but he was sad because he wanted them today. I understand. I mean, he is only four and isn't it pretty exciting to go get new shoes? I know I always liked it. Leyton didn't want any other ones. So we had some for Nathaniel, still debating on if Leah needed some (while she was crying & wanting to eat as well), none for Leyton & Jacob wasn't cooperating. We finally got some on Jacob & he kept saying they were "TOO TIGHT" (hardly). Finally I was able to convince Leyton that he & I could go on a special trip tomorrow to get his shoes. He was finally ok with it. I did feel bad to see him so sad. It was cute on the way home, though. I told him thanks for being such a big boy & he said, "It's ok Mom, I'll get some tomorrow. I can wait." Jacob's shoes were finally ok once we got home. What made things even better was a little dinner for everyone. After dinner, life was back to pure happiness for all. So here I get to the best part...we have 3 boys & 1 girl sleeping now - all 3 boys wanted to wear their shoes to bed.

What a great game against UNC! Can't wait for Monday night! We enjoyed the game & I made Jayhawk cookies and some basketball & basketball net chocolates.
