This morning Jacob kissed Anne on the forehead. I asked him for a kiss but he told me he was all out. I made a frown and said that I'd really like to have a kiss. He said, "In a little while, you can 'cuz my heart will make some more."
A few minutes later, I got two kisses. Thanks!

First Day of Kindergarten! Aug. 19, 2009
Leyton & Nathaniel started kindergarten on the 19th. What a change of pace! We're off to a great start. It's been almost a week and the boys are really enjoying kindergarten. They had a half day on last Wed. & Thurs., and then started into full day last Friday. I now see why parents ask so many questions when their kids get home (and I remember sometimes feeling like no one should ask so many questions). BUT, I miss them during the day and want to know what all they were up to - I really think I'd like a detailed agenda for the day, but realize that's a bit crazy and the teachers may not go for that. I guess I'll lay off a bit.
Jacob, Leah, and Anne seem to be enjoying the time, too. It's a different dynamic, that's for sure, just having the three of them. We're enjoying the time together, yet it is also cute how Leah is when we mention it's time to go "pick up brothers." She smiles, gives her sign of approval and says, "Bro-da's." She's a cutie. Jacob feels like he's in charge a bit and so on and so forth. I'm happy the boys are enjoying school so far and have been very positive. I hope it stays that way!

Hug Bug of Love
Jacob has just been so happy lately and it's been wonderful to see his cute personality so often. He has been very imaginative, too, and pretending all the time. Playing firetrucks has been lots of fun for him, too. One other cute thing is that he really likes the Doo-Dads music (another local KC area band - more rockin' than Jim Cosgrove's Jimmy Buffett style, very fun). What I love is that one of his favorite songs is Hug Bug of Love. He'll go around singing: "Hug bug, hug bug, hug bug of love." Now picture Jacob wandering around singing that and if you make eye contact, he bashfully looks down and acts shy with his cute little grin. Definitely a cherished moment.

The Sunshine on this Rainy Morning...
It was a rainy morning today and I was feeding Anne and Jacob & Leah were playing in the family room. Jacob had a toy cash register and we started pretending...
Jacob: "Mom, would you like some Ice Cream?"
Mom: "Sure, that sounds great."
Jacob: "OK, what kind?"
Mom: "Vanilla; I think it's the best." (Vanilla is Jacob's favorite)
Jacob: "OK, here you go. It costs $40."
Mom: "OK, thank you, here's the money. How much does a car cost?"
Jacob: "$7"
Mom: "Oh, sounds good. How about a house, how much is that?"
Jacob: "$20. Did you eat all your ice cream?"
Mom: "Sounds great! My ice cream is almost all gone; I saved a little for ice cream soup. Thank you." (Jacob likes to stir his ice cream as it melts to make "ice cream soup.")
All I'd need to add is: having fun, pretending, playing: priceless.

Smiles!
Today I was talking to Anne and low and behold I got the cutest smiles on two different occasions. The boys were then saying hi to her and telling me she was smiling over and over (at least that was their take). In any event, it was so cute to see her responding to my voice with such a cute squinty grin. How can she already be approaching six weeks?

WHOA, time slow down!
What a crazy few weeks! I've been on my own during the day for a little bit now...this is my 3rd week. Although, I did have some help last week as we (the kids & I - Patrick stayed home to work & do some home projects) went to Grandma Donna & Grandpa Jerry's for part of last week for the good ol' fair (a whole other topic - more on that & pics later). And now, we're about at mid-August!
The big boys, unbelievably, start kindergarten next week. They had previously been enrolled for 1/2-day, but with the move, they're now in full-day as that's the only option where they'll be in school. I am starting to be a bit nervous about getting all of their things ready. You know, school supply lists have become much more detailed than I remember. Examples...they each need 14 glue sticks - really, 14? Oh well. And, specific brands of paints and scissors, specific numbers of specific colors of folders, and pencils that I've never heard of. Oh well, I know it's just little details and they have a planned worked out for everything, but I've shopped twice now and have less than half of what I need. I have located some products, though, so I think one more trip to Target and then a trip to The Supply Closet, and I think I'll be in good shape - too bad they aren't all open 24 hrs...shopping trips are hard to come by these days. I do have their school uniforms taken care of, though. Pants are in the house, shirts just ordered & ready to be picked up at the store, and the shorts I ordered last night and will be shipped to me. That's a relief and some pretty good deals, too. Nothing like the excitement of navy blue pants/shorts and light blue shirts! We're excited for them. I'm sure next week I'll really be having an emotional complex. Ha, just wait a couple more weeks until Jacob starts preschool!
Oh yes, and then my Jacob going to preschool. I feel good about my decision to enroll him at a preschool very close to our house. I know it will help with logistics and the more people I talk to, the more good things I've heard about the program...even better!
It really is hard to believe these changes are about to happen. I know they'll do great, but I know I'm going to really miss them. Mom & Patrick's Mom have been very encouraging, though, in saying things like: they're ready, they'll do great & have lots of fun, you'll have some special time with the younger three (younger 2 when Jacob is also at school), etc., etc. I'm sure that may all be true, but I feel like for Leyton & Nathaniel, it's the start of such a new stage in their lives...they'll just never be home with me every day any more. And Jacob, I know 3 year old preschool really isn't anything rocket science oriented, but as much as he chases after those big brothers and is now truly a middle child, I'm really hoping he enjoys preschool mostly as his own new thing to do and enjoy...his friends to make, his projects to do, his accomplishments to be proud of that are unique to him. He really is a sweet boy and I have to remember that he's in a bit of challenging family position; I look forward to seeing the proud smile on his face as he begins his new thing. PLEASE, Lord, don't let time go too quickly! I know one thing Grandma Sally has said many times about raising her six children, who for the most part, were pretty close in age as well, really sticks with me: "The hardest part of raising the six was that once one left the house, it was one after another and soon they were all grown." I better stop before I start thinking of Leah or Anne even starting school! I want to enjoy the time and I know and see every day how they just aren't little for very long!

New Phrases
It's been cute lately to hear some of the new phrases Leyton & Nathaniel are using. Leyton has often been saying lately, "Well, Mom, the thing is..." and on to his story. I don't know where he got that, but he uses it appropriately and it cracks me up. Tonight in the bathtub, Nathaniel was laying in the water and he said, "Oh, this is the life; the sun, the sea, and me." Ha, figure that one out. Not sure about its origin either, but cute none-the-less. I'll have to make a note of the other ones, but for tonight, these came to mind.
